Zaplana is a small village, spread in the hills about 30 kilometers west of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. Being approximately 300 meters higher than Ljubljana and the surrounding towns, the climate in Zaplana is slightly cooler than in Ljubljana, with a bit more rainfall, noticeable especially in the winter, when we would get over a meter of snow in good winters.

As Zaplana is still relatively sparsely populated (apart from a few weekend resorts), you can enjoy the green forests and meadows almost anywhere in Zaplana.
